I am writing this email to request your acceptance of Mr. Mark Van Pernis into the County of Hawaii
Planning Commission.
As a resident of The Big Island for over 50 years,public school teacher of 7-8th graders for 31 112 years,
PAC Chair for West Hawaii HSTA for 2 years,President of the homeowners at Heights At Hualalai for 3
terms, I have seen many changes in Kona over those last 50 years. Many good, some not so good. I have
testified many times in front of the County Council,Leeward Planning Commission and even video
communicated with Mayor Harry Kim on Issues all related to the betterment of my community.
As a 72 year old, I have met many, many lawyers here and there is no one that I trust more than Mr. Mark
Van Pernis. Let me tell you why. He has always been available to talk and share information, guide my
community for its betterment countless times,more often than not,pro bono..
Personally, I can honestly say,that I have never met a more civic minded individual. Ever! He is current with
everything going on in Kona. He has made me aware of situations that I needed to be more active hopefully
helping my community.
With this said, I believe Mr. Mark Van Pernis would be an objective, unbiased addition to the County
Planning Commission.
