I am writing in support of Bill 131, a much needed first step in building the hub and spoke system for Lower Puna. 'I With the three new busses arriving soon, this location is shovel ready and can be j open by the end of this school year.... I As former Chair of the Pahoa Planning Committee, under the Puna CDP, we identified the site six location as one of our first choices. As time went by, it became obvious that residents do not want the big buses going through town. The location by the Police and Fire stations faced opposition from the Mayor's Office due to concerns about additional traffic interfering with Emergency Vehicles. As a founding member of the Pahoa Schools Booster Club and Scholarship Fund, it became blatantly obvious to me...our keiki that want to participate in sports, in clubs, in student activities, etc., had minimal transportation available to them. Transportation is a critical component in assisting keiki to advance their dreams. Having the Hub right next to the High School complex is the obvious choice. As former President of Mainstreet Pahoa, I am pleased to join them in their support of site number 6. Their endorsement letter is attached. PLEASE, Councilmembers, please... help Puna in its recovery by voting YES on this shovel-ready project. This important step towards Puna's recovery could be complete by Spring. Mahalo nui for your consideration...
