Although I am not a big fan of resolutions in general, I support this one because it will be a show of confidence to our hard working County employees who have already stated their support of reducing herbicide use in vegetation control. Their job is not an easy one on the Big Island and bringing a former employee from Maui to show them how it can be done was a bit disrespectful to our public works employees. I'm sure you recognize that the Big Island is over five times the size of Maui. There are numerous health issues facing us on the Big Island right now. Rat Lungworm disease, fire ants, cesspool usage, Hu Honua air emissions and ground water degradation, and the potential for the spread of Coronavirus far outweigh the potential health risk of using Roundup. Homelessness, domestic violence, driver DUls, and the state of our infrastructure are other issues that need attention. The focus on banning Roundup has taken an inordinate amount of valuable time from the County Council and County workers, and has distracted them and the public from issues that are quickly becoming out of control. The feral pig population and Rapid Ohia Death are already out of control. I respect and admire your service to our community, but can we please end this seemingly endless quest to ban Roundup? Passage of this resolution should reasonably accomplish that. I have no financial interest in Bayer or Monsanto. I am a scientist and engineer and have reviewed all credible information on this subject. This is not an issue that requires any more of your valuable time. Mahalo for your time and consideration.
