os M''' <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 510 20 <br /> A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING A DONATION TO THE DEPARTMENT OF PARKS <br /> AND RECREATION FROM BEYOND PESTICIDES FOR SOIL ANALYSIS AND <br /> REVIEW OF TURF MAINTENANCE PRACTICES. <br /> WHEREAS, the County of Hawai`i owns or maintains and operates the following park <br /> facilities: Kuawa Park, TMK (3)2-2-032; 003, 004, 008, 019, 087, 088 in the district of South <br /> Hilo; and Pahoa_District Park, TMK (3)1-5-002;020 in the district of Puna; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation desires to investigate the benefits <br /> and practicability of implementing a turf management plan aimed at reducing or eliminating the <br /> reliance on chemical products at County parks; and <br /> WHEREAS, Beyond Pesticides, a national, nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation, has offered <br /> to provide soil analysis at Kuawa Park and Pahoa District Park as selected by the Department of <br /> Parks and Recreation, in order to evaluate the microbial activity and soil composition at each site <br /> and provide recommendations to the Department of Parks and Recreation to develop a viable and <br /> comprehensive organic turf management plan, inclusive of training for County employees; and <br /> WHEREAS, the estimated value of the soil analysis and evaluation by Beyond <br /> Pesticides is approximately $7,500; and <br /> WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawai`i County Charter (2018 edition), <br /> provides that the County Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts of donations of <br /> money, securities, or other personal property or of real estate or any interest in real estate; now, <br /> therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII in <br /> accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawai`i County Charter (2018 edition), the <br /> County of Hawai`i accepts the donation from Beyond Pesticides to conduct soil analysis and <br /> review of turf maintenance practices at Kuawa Park and Pahoa District Park. <br />
