Re: Agreement with the State of Hawaii
The Department of Finance seeks to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawaii,
Board of Land and Natural Resources for the acquisition of Kapanai`a,North Kohala,
Island of Hawaii.
On September 21, 2018, the County of Hawaii applied for grant funding from the State
of Hawaii, Board of Land and Natural Resources. The application was approved and the
County was granted an award of$1,452,000 to assist with acquiring the property.
Enclosed is a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
of Hawaii, Board of Land and Natural Resources in order to receive these grant funds. If

A. REQUEST:
Prepare resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State of Hawai'i, Board of Land
and Natural Resources, Legacy Land Conservation Program and to accept funds for the acquisition of
Kapanai'a, North Kohala, Island of Hawaii.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED
The County applied for grant funding in the amount of$1.5 million from the State of Hawaii Department of
Land and Natural Resources, Land Conservation Fund for the acquisition of TMK(3) 5-2-007:004 and 027
on September 21, 2018. The County's application was approved on April 26, 2019 by the Board of Land and
Natural Resources (BLNR) in the amount of$1,452,000.
