REPORT OF THE <br />COMMITTEE ON PLANNING <br />DATE: February 18, 2020 <br />PLACE: Council Chambers <br />Kailua-Kona, Hawaii <br />TIME: 10:05 a.m. <br />Council Chair and Members <br />Hawaii County Council <br />Hilo, Hawaii 96720 <br />Re: Comm. No. 755 <br />Your Committee on Planning, to which was referred Communication No. 755, reports as <br />follows: <br />Communication No. 755, dated January 29, 2020, and transmitted by Managing Director <br />Roy Takemoto on behalf of Mayor Harry Kim, nominates Justin Lee of Council District 3 to the <br />Board of Appeals. If confirmed, he would serve a four-year term to end December 31, 2023. <br />Mr. Lee was born and raised on Oahu, currently resides on the Island of Hawaii and serves on <br />numerous community organizations, including the Hawaii County Bar Association and <br />William S. Richard School of Law Alumni Association. <br />Barbara Kossow, Deputy Managing Director for Mayor Harry Kim, introduced the nominee <br />before the Planning Committee. Mr. Lee stated that he appreciated the Council Members' time <br />and consideration. <br />Committee Chair Ashley Kierkiewicz asked Mr. Lee if he was aware of the level of commitment <br />that the Board of Appeals requires and the intensity of the work, to which he replied that he was <br />aware. She thanked him for taking the time to serve the County in this way. <br />Pursuant to Section 6-9.2 of the Hawaii County Charter, the Board of Appeals shall consist of <br />seven members who shall be appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the Council. <br />Mr. Lee was informed that he was not required to appear at the next Council meeting. <br />PC Report No.: 45 <br />
