WHEREAS, the North Kohala Community Resource Center (NKCRC) is a 5 01 (c)(3)
nonprofit organization whose mission is to increase the number of successful community
projects that benefit North Kohala; and
WHEREAS, in 2000, a special group of North Kohala residents rekindled the
community by hosting a North Kohala Reunion that is held every five years, and has since grown
in scope of cultural, historical, and educational offerings orchestrated by the reunion committee;
and
WHEREAS, since its inception, the North Kohala Reunion attracts thousands of
families, friends, community members, and tourists to the community of North Kohala where
much Hawaiian history and plantation culture was formed and is celebrated; and
WHEREAS, NKCRC is working with the committee to coordinate this event and is
requesting funds for advertising and promotional expenses for the 2020 North Kohala Reunion
being held July 3 — 5, 2020 at the Kamehameha Park complex; and
WHEREAS, one of the goals of the Department of Research and Development is to
support the sustainability of our island's communities through community-based collaboration
and capacity building services; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to NKCRC for advertising and promotional
expenses related to the 2020 North Kohala Reunion.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
