RESOLUTION NO. 528 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO THE DAUGHTERS OF
HAWAII TO ASSIST WITH EXPENSES RELATED TO THE KING KAMEHAMEHA
DAY CELEBRATION PARADE AND HO`OLAULE`A IN KONA.
WHEREAS, the Daughters of Hawaii is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose
mission is to perpetuate the memory and spirit of old Hawaii and to preserve the nomenclature
and correct pronunciation of the Hawaiian language; and
WHEREAS, the Daughters of Hawaii is partnering with the King Kamehameha Day
Celebration Parade Committee to assist with the King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade and
the ho`olaule`a, which will occur on June 13, 2020, in the historic Kailua Village; and
WHEREAS, the ho`olaule`a will be held at Hulihe`e Palace and will feature cultural and
educational events for the community including lei displays, palace tours, and demonstrations of
other cultural practices; and
WHEREAS, the Daughters of Hawaii is requesting funds for advertisement and rental
fees to use Hulihe`e Palace for the ho`olaule`a; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Liquor Control supports programs that provide
educational activities and community events in a drug-free and alcohol -free environment, such as
the King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 8 will be appropriated to the Department of
Liquor Control to provide a grant to the Daughters of Hawaii to assist with expenses related to
the King Kamehameha Day Celebration Parade and ho`olaule`a in Kona.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Liquor Control and Director of Finance, and that the Director of
Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
