WHEREAS, May is recognized as Older Americans Month, a time to celebrate and
honor the contributions that seniors have made and continue to make in our community and our
nation; and
WHEREAS, Older Americans Month occurs annually and dates back to 1963 when
President John F. Kennedy, through a proclamation, designated May as Senior Citizens Month,
which was later renamed Older Americans Month; and
WHEREAS, the Office of Aging is requesting funds to assist with expenses associated
with hosting this year's Outstanding Older Americans Award Luncheon for honored seniors on
May 1, 2020; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District I will be appropriated to the Office of Aging to
assist with expenses associated with the annual Outstanding Older Americans Award Luncheon.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:
