RESOLUTION NO, 5
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of Commerce Cultural and
Education Center (HIPCCCEC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that was formed to promote
and sustain Portuguese culture and heritage; and
WHEREAS, the HIPCCCEC will be celebrating its Malasada Shuffle 5K and Family
Fun Festa Radiothon on June 27, 2020, at Francis F.C. Wong Stadium; and
WHEREAS, the Malasada Shuffle 5K and Family Fun Festa Radiothon event is free,
open to the public, and will be featuring presentations, exhibits, demonstrations, food, dance,
music, contests, a 5K shuffle and radiothon; and
WHEREAS, the HIPCCCEC is requesting funds for advertising, flyers, posters, banners,
performer accommodations, and other event related costs; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research and Development supports efforts to increase
knowledge and understanding of other cultures as well as the economic contribution of the
visitor industry to Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to the Hawaii Island Portuguese Chamber of
Commerce Cultural and Educational Center for its Malasada Shuffle 5K and Family Fun Festa
Radiothon.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawaii hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
