<br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRINGIAPPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
<br /> AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
<br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA O PUNA
<br /> FOR EXPENSES RELATING TO ITS "REVITALIZE KAPOHO" EVENT.
<br /> i
<br /> WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to
<br /> assure critical habitat for native species and open space for future generations through
<br /> environmental education, hands-on projects, advocacy, watchdogging, and land conservation; and
<br /> WHEREAS,Vacationland Hawaii Community Association, Inc., (VHCA) is seeking to
<br /> rebuild the Kapoho subdivision, wherein all but three homes were lost to the 2018 Kilauea
<br /> eruption, and to revitalize the surrounding area; and
<br /> WHEREAS, Malama O Puna, in collaboration with the VHCA, will be hosting a
<br /> "Revitalize Kapoho" event in mid to late 2020 featuring musicians, food trucks, and vendors of
<br /> locally made products; and
<br /> WHEREAS, the event will celebrate progress that has already been made and raise
<br /> awareness regarding the recovery options for Kapoho and the community; and
<br /> WHEREAS,the event will also provide an opportunity for Hawaii County personnel,
<br /> including the newly developed recovery team, and other organizations to interact with the
<br /> affected population and provide the latest information; and
<br /> WHEREAS, Malama O Puna is seeking funds to cover expenses associated with hosting
<br /> "Revitalize Kapoho," including but not limited to sound equipment, stages, chairs, tables,
<br /> promotional materials, posters, printed ads, and radio spots; and
<br /> WHEREAS,the Department of Liquor Control supports cultural and educational
<br /> programs, activities, and events that are drug-free, alcohol-free, and improve the quality of life
<br /> for Hawaii Island residents; and
<br /> WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawaii County Code,
<br /> Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
<br /> resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event, activity,
<br /> service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,therefore,
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
<br /> Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
<br /> Liquor Control to provide a grant to Malama O Puna for expenses associated with its "Revitalize
<br /> Kapoho" event.
