Ruderman District 2—Puna-Ka`u Before the County of Hawaii Committee on Governmental Relations and Economic Development Hawaii County Building March 10, 2020 at 2:30 PM s ,$ March, 5, 2020 Re: RESOLUTION NO. 505-20 County Council County of Hawaii: I am in strong support of Resolution No. 505-20, a resolution urging the administration to develop and implement a long-term plan with the state of Hawaii Department of Transportation to improve the highway 11 corridor in Kea`au. As stated in the resolution, Route 11 corridor through Kea`au serves as a major thoroughfare in and between Hilo, Pahoa, Volcano, and Katt. I believe that this resolution will highlight the traffic issues and find a resolution to help alleviate the commute of the residents traveling through to get to work, hospitals, and the airport. There have been many traffic fatalities and serious injuries on this route over the years, which often involved lane closures and disruptions in our residents' commute. Many of my constituents have raised their concerns regarding the highway and I am glad that the County has decided to discuss improvement plans for Route 11. This resolution will hopefully highlight these issues. Mahalo for the opportunity to testify, Senator Russell Ruderman Comm. No. W Ref. To: 7 (/ Ref. Date l AR 1 0 2020
