COUNTY OF HAWAIJATE OF HAWAII
RESOLUTION NO.
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE DEPARTMENT OF RESEARCH
AND DEVELOPMENT TO AWARD FUNDS TO THE FOOD BASKET,
INC.
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii
County Code (2005 Edition as amended) states, Grant awards in excess of$25,000
to nonprofit organizations shall specifically identify the organization receiving the
grant funds and the purpose for which the grant funds shall be used in an ordinance
or resolution; and
WHEREAS, Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-136(5) of the Hawaii County
Code states, "nonprofit organization" means an organization organized for other than
profit-making purposes and which has a current 501(c)3 tax-exemption from the
Internal Revenue Code; and
WHEREAS, the Food Basket, Inc., Hawaii Island Food Bank, which qualifies
as a nonprofit organization as defined above, will provide emergency food response
within the County of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Research & Development wishes to provide
$50,000 to the Food Basket, Inc., Hawaii Island Food Bank; and
WHEREAS, the grant funds will be used to support the Food Basket, Inc.'s
COVID-19 Pandemic Response Mission by funding their COVID-19 Response
Manager position; now, therefore
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII, in
accordance with Chapter 2, Article 25, Section 2-139(a)(3)(A) of the Hawaii County
Code, the Department of Research & Development is authorized to provide a grant of
$50,000 to the Food Basket, Inc., Hawaii Island Food Bank to support their COVID-19
Pandemic Response Mission. -
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii
shall transmit copies of this resolution to the Office of the Mayor, the Finance
Department, and the Department of Research & Development.
