Subject: Communication 822: Nominates Corey Luke to the Fire Commission
Hearing Date: Wednesday, March 25,2020
Time/Place of Hearing: 9:00 a.m., Hawaii County Building Council Chambers
I am Darren J. Rosario, Fire Chief of the Hawaii Fire Department. I support the nomination of
Corey Luke to the Fire Commission. I do not have any personal knowledge or working
experience with Mr. Luke. However, I understand that he served as an Engineer for the
Department of the Navy for approximately 30 years in our state. I am confident that his work
experience will carry over to his commitment to serve his community in the capacity of a Fire
Commissioner.
2020 will be a pivotal year for the Fire Commission. In December 2019 I provided notice to the
Fire Commission of my intent to retire in 2020. Although the current events facing not just our
county but the world have suspended any imminent retirement for me, I look forward to
retirement by years end at the latest. The nomination of Mr. Luke and the others today will result
in the.commission in having a quorum to conduct its business.
