We understand the challenges this involves and remain committed to undertaking the work needed to restore our private roadway system of about 5 miles through an SBA loan for which we qualified. We know the community supports this as well given the circulation of a petition for the month of February 2020 that garnered nearly 2,700 signatures in support of restoration of Hwy 137 and Lighthouse Rd. While altered by the 2018 Kilauea LERZ event, the area remains incredibly beautiful and much of the area is still habitable; Due to the uncertainty posed by the threat of COVID 19,we are glad to see that the resolution does not pin us down to a date. We have worked with the Maku'u Farmers Market to use that venue and were booked on May 16th, but given the current situation,we will have to schedule the event later in the year. We've also been in contact with Douglas Le of the County Lava Recovery Team regarding having them at the event and perhaps collecting some data from the lower Puna population. Again,we want to thank the Council for its consideration of this matter and hope everyone approves this measure. Mahalo, Deb Smith,VHCA President Comm No Ref.To: V Ref. Date MAR 2 b /Uzu
