To: Council Testimony
Aloha,
I am writing to urgently request and demand, in the strongest possible terms, that the County of
Hawaii be locked down. Immediately. The chaotic fiasco that is the County response to
COVID 19 is utterly and completely unacceptable.
Mayor Kim and Governor Ige seem incapable of making difficult decisions. At
all. Maunakea. COVID19. Seems as though the thinking is, if we do nothing it'll go away.
Mayor Kim has become a danger to this County, and seems to revel in his stubborn refusal, in
the face of public outcry via email, voicemail and social media, to contain the virus. All County
workers are required to go to work. He wants restaurants to remain open. No one on his staff
seems able to counter his actions. No one. This is an appalling situation, where Kim seems to
care more about 8,000 daily visitors, than residents. His staff will not contradict him. County
workers are obedient and show up. I can't understand why there hasn't been a public outcry.
I believe it is the dutyof the CountyCouncil to shout loudlywith a unifed voice, and DEMAND
action following recommendations of Lt Gov, Dr. Josh Green. NOW. Not tomorrow, not next
week,NOW! Forget Proclamations, Declarations. Quit kicking the can down the road.
Do we know how many masks, face shields, other PPE we have? How many hospital
beds? How many ventilators and their locations? Civil Beat News stated that we have 39
ventilators and 24 ICU beds. For the entire island. Does anyone in the Mayors office understand
this? Does anyone care? How can California and New York and Las Vegas be shut down and
we stay opn? Where are the public announcements urging care and cooperation, educating the
public? Where are announcements telling visitors to stay away from Hawaii? Who is on a
committee (if one even exists) managing this crisis? Where are frequent updates? Who is in
charge? Civil Defense? The Mayor? What doctor on this island is leading the charge???
READ THE NEWS! Listen to experts!
This had been an uncomprehensible catastrophe of inaction. The Mayor and Governor must
listen to experts, and concrete, immediate actions must be taken to ensure health and safety of
all.
