Aloha,
I live in Waikoloa Village, and read this article in Hawaii News Now:
Council schedules emergency meeting: Videoconference meeting to
address COVID-19; emailed public testimony encouraged
[While it mentions that we should email our "testimony," I could not find an email
address anywhere in the article for the public to-use! (I dug and found this email in
a different article.) So you may only hear from the persistent "dogs with a rag" like
me.]
I don't have personal testimony on Covid 19; and I'm surely preaching to the choir,
however I am noticing a lot of denial here on the Big Island about the severity of
the situation. (As they say, "denial is more than a river in Egypt!")
I think that many people are not keen to watch the meeting on Friday; friends of
mine (intelligent people!) are simply avoiding the issue by watching movies instead
of the news, yet still going out to restaurants with tons of tourists. They use Clorox
wipes and think "I'm good." I was one of them! Until I really started watching the
news, Stephen Colbert etc. and "got it."
The following YouTube video is something that people are likely to watch, since it's
oddly upbeat and optimistic, yet makes the point strongly - do your part to flatten
the curve! It's 10 minutes:
How To See Germs Spread (Coronavirus) by Mark Rober.
https://youtu.be/I5-dI74zxPq
Over 5 million views; it'd be great if everyone in our state watched it!
I know you're not in the "business" of pushing YouTube videos, but that's my 2
cents on how to reach more people - kids, young adults, naysayers and those with
their heads in the sand - entertain them while sneaking in the message.
I'll share it best I can, and try to convince my oodles of friends that if they get
serious about this, we can make a dent.
Mahalos,
Jen Yankee Caulfield
