Hello County Council,
I understand that you are meeting today to discuss COVID and the Big Island. As a physician on
island I would like to see more closures/lock down type measures being taken. I am afraid that
once we start seeing more COVID cases here on the Big Island, our hospitals, staff and resources
will quickly be overwhelmed. Given the extended period of time critically ill patients end up on
the ventilators with this disease, I am concerned that we face shortages of these machines in
particular. Many other hospitals and countries across the country are already experiencing
shortages in masks/PPE,which is also concerning. By placing more stringent lockdown type
measures in place, I believe this can help our community by decreasing cases and conserving
resources and thus save lives.
Thank you for your hard work.
