By dfe Mandatory quarantines and closures Date MAR 2 0 2020 To: Council Testimony Dear County Council, I implore you to help protect our vulnerable island community by closing all public spaces,non- essential businesses, and quarantining ALL passengers arriving from the mainland. Our healthcare system and healthcare workers need us to all do everything we can to limit the rate of spread of this infection and allow our systems to best cope.Make no mistake, to virus is here, it will spread, and we all will need to deal with hardships associated with the decline in economic and social activities that COVID19 will bring--there is no stopping that. What can be done is lessen the impact and SAVE LIVES by acting BOLDLY and STRONGLY now. My family has been self-isolating since March 13th. As scientists we are watching the data and we see the unthinkable impacts that lack of inaction can cause. I refer you to this very useful article that includes graphs and model of the impact and the result of even one day of delay. https://medium.com/Ltomaspueyo/coronavirus-the-hammer-and-the-dance-be933 7092b56 Please, please, this is what good leadership is-- the ability to make difficult choices for the benefit of the many.
