Aloha my name is Soni Pomaski, and my husband Mark and I own Moon and Turtle, a restaurant
and bar in downtown Hilo.
On Wednesday, March 18,we made the devastating decision to fire all but one of our staff. Did
this because we feel that keeping a dining room open during these times is unwise and only
contributing to the problem.
Our vote would be to to do as California is doing. Everyone has to be on the same timeline, in
sync while trying to combat this issue together. Everyone should have to stay home and all
people coming to the islands should go through a mandatory 14 day quarantine, making our
island safe and allowing us to try and go back to life as normal in a more timely manner.
Right now in town there are a handful of places open (retail and F&B) and there are a lot of
visitors milling about and it feels like nobody is taking this seriously.
We need strong leadership right now, so that we can all make it through this together.
