I am a teacher on the Big Island over 60 .
I am very concerned about the safety of our keikis and ALL of the population of Hawaii. My
first priority is to do all I can to ensure the safety of my students. Although Hawaii does not
have the number of cases that other states like NY and CA have, this may have something to do
with the lack of testing from Day 1 and the restrictions for testing. (According to CDC,
symptoms may occur 2-14 days after exposure). That means asymptomatic carriers may
unknowingly pass on the virus until dangerously ill. Taking into account that Hawaii is visited by
people from all over the world, it seems to me only a matter of time before the number of
positive cases increase. For the public safety, we must act quickly to provide more readily-
accessible testing and lessen the restrictions required for a test.
