To: Council Testimony
Aloha,
I am a mother, teacher, small business owner and member of the Big Island community.
It is unacceptable that that our county is allowing visitors to the island to fly in and raise the risk
of our local community being overwhelmed with COVID-19. In addition to flying here,
restaurants are still open and people are gathering. This goes against everything we are learning
about how to stop the spread of this pandemic. We are perpetually in a medical shortage with
doctors,nurses and supplies. The extra stress that COVID-19 will put on this already stressed
system is terrifying and can be alleviated, if you take the appropriate action.
Please take drastic action for the sake of our local community's health. As a small business
owner, I know that the economic impact is great when closing businesses,but we must do this
for the health and safety of our families. This is a time when we all must make sacrifices for the
good of all. Please, let our county lead the nation in taking action to prevent the rapid spread of
COVID-19.
