To Whom it May Concern
I'd like to start off by saying that I am a registered nurse at one of our hospitals here on the Big Island. I
can tell you that we are doing everything we can to prepare for this possible outbreak. I can tell you that
our patients aren't allowed to see their families at all because we are on lockdown. I can tell you that we
are using only PPE that absolutely needs to be used, in fear that we will run out when this outbreak hits.
I can tell you that we as nurses and CNAs, are already short on the floors and do doubles all the time to
provide the best possible care to our community. I can tell you that I am terrified of bringing this virus
home to my 4month old baby, not just from work possibly, but from Target or the gas station or the
bank machine because people are not"meeting criteria"to be tested or are not properly self distancing
and quarantining themselves.
What can you tell me has been done in Hawaii county to protect me and my family?!Absolutely nothing.
There needs to be a mandatory shutdown of anything that holds more than 10 people who can't be at
least 6 feet apart from each other. Restaurants, cruiseships, PLANES, bars...why are we the only county
that has no restrictions in place?!
Rules need to be put in place at the stores about how many people can be in there at once.There needs
to be rules about people at playgrounds and walking around the mall because"their kids need to get out
of the house".Strict consequences need to be put in place or we will fall as a community.Why hasn't
there been any announcement about the one case of a TRAVELER who tested positive?We should know
where she's staying,where she went to, people she possibly had interactions with....we live on an
island.Things will escalate and get out of hand quickly.
We cannot afford to become the next Italy. Hawaii is not equip for it.You don't want that kind of blood
on your hands. Help keep us safe. I,as a frontline worker need to know my county is doing everything it
can to help me stay safe and serve those who need it most.
