RESOLUTION NO. 597 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO MALAMA 0 PUNA
FOR EMERGENCY FOOD DISTRIBUTION AS PART OF THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC
RELIEF EFFORTS.
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization who has been serving
and volunteering in the Puna District for more than 20 years; and
WHEREAS, to assist with COVID-19 relief efforts, Malama 0 Puna is partnering with
food distributors, community organizations, and the County to distribute boxes of food to
households in need due to loss of income resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and Stay-at-
Home orders; and
WHEREAS, Malama 0 Puna is requesting funds`Tor expenses relating to its food
distribution efforts, including food purchases, supplies for meal preparation, serving, and
distribution; and
WHEREAS, this project falls within the Department of Research and Development's
mission to enhance the standard of living of the residents and the economic viability of business
in Hawai`i County; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via,
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment,materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 5 will be appropriated to the Department of
Research and Development to provide a grant to Malama 0 Puna for emergency food
distribution as part of the COVID-19 pandemic relief efforts.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance, and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the
terms of this resolution.
