On behalf of La`i`opua 2020 Executive Director and the Board of Directors of La`i`opua 2020, I
want to express support and a big"mahalo" for Resolutions 569, 570 and 571 being submitted by
Councilmembers Karen Eoff, Rebecca Villegas and Maile David. Following is an outline of
what we're doing and what these funds will be used for;
• WHO: La'i`opua 2020, a 501(c)3 Non-Profit—EIN#56-2638917, designed to provide
social, educational, recreational and cultural programs for the community.
• WHAT: Free meals for community members residing in North, Central and South Kona.
• HOW: L2020 board members, staff and community volunteers will cook meals utilizing
L2020's brand new certified commercial kitchen. Served in plastic wrapped containers,
delivery will be "take out style—drive and pick up". Word of this community service
will be shared through FB, IG and word of mouth. A specially designed flyer for each
meal, day and time will be utilized. The requirement is that food will be provided only to
those present to prevent"hoarding".
• WHEN: March 30, 2020 till August 31, 2020. A total of five months, once per week.
• WHY: To feed families/individuals/health care workers and other community
members who may be in need during this difficult COVID-19 pandemic.
• WHERE: La`i`opua 2020, 74-5210 Keanalehu Dr. Kailua-Kona, HI 96740. Meals will
be delivered in the parking lot(no need to exit vehicle) and/or volunteers may deliver to
hospitals and/or organizations that have a need.
I have attached pictures of our certified commercial kitchen as well as the flyers which show two
of the meal services which started on March 30th with the second being held on April 9th. I
thank all councilmembers in advance for their consideration in approving these resolutions in our
efforts to malama our community.
