I ask that you defer hearing this measure until those in our county and state are able to publicly testify before the Council. The first issue with this Resolution is that the appropriation/needs to be limited. Reimbursement should only provide for past action on the mauna, not open to that in the future where that amount is open-ended and undefined. Furthermore, the public needs to be able to properly testify. For that to happen, the resolution needs to be deferred until it can be heard at a time where Hawai'i is not restricted to focus on our health and safety during the COVID-19 pandemic. The fact that this resolution is on the agenda at such a critical time in our lives makes us question the Council's integrity. As both a Hawaiian and a kia`i, I strongly urge that you defer Resolution 568-20 and reiterate my strong opposition to the measure. At a time where we should be focusing on the health of our people, we should not need to worry that we are being taken advantage of.Today, construction in Sherwood will resume, and kia'i are confined to their homes. Please do not push this resolution through in a time of extreme vulnerability. Mahalo for your time, Amanda Canda Resident of Puna Comm. No. .2I Ref.To: p I CULL Ref. Date APR - g 2020
