I am pleased to submit this testimony in strong support of Resolution 590-20 related to
contingency funds for the purchase of PPE in the fight against COVID-19.
West Hawaii Community Health Center has been on the front line for the COVID-19 screening
and testing of West Hawaii residents since early March. During that time, WHCHC has screened
over 1,500 patients, of who 480 required to be triaged and of those, 306 were tested for the
corona virus resulting in one positive test result. WHCHC has burned through thousands of
PPE—paper masks, N95 masks,face shields, protective gowns, sanitizer, and cleaner. Some PPE
is provided through the Hawaii Emergency Management and voluntary donations, however
WHCHCH has purchased much of its own PPE. Resolution 590-20 will help WHCHC to purchase
the needed PPE so it staff can remain safe while caring for the residents of West Hawaii.
I humbly request the Hawaii County Council to adopt Resolution No. 590-20.
