RE: Bill 159 Amends Ordinance No. 19-73, as amended, the operating budget for the County
of Hawaii for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2020
Position: Support
The Hawaii Food Industry Association is comprised of two hundred member companies
representing retailers, suppliers, producers, and distributors of food and beverage related
products in the State of Hawaii.
We support this measure which would appropriate $643,000 to the Hawaii Foodbank. As our
unemployment rate soars our food assistance network is increasingly challenged to provide for
all those who need help. This appropriation will enable the Foodbank to continue working to
ensure that everyone in Hawaii County has access to food. The Hawaii Foodbank uses
resources very efficiently to ensure that they get the most food for every dollar and the money
they spend goes back into Hawaii's economy supporting local food retailers, farmers,
fishermen, and manufacturers. We urge you to vote yes on this measure and we thank you for
the opportunity to testify.
