Dear Government Affairs Committee:
This letter is to voice our opposition to Mayor Kim's proposed plan to increase real property taxes on non-
resident properties valued above$2 million. We built a home on this beautiful island in the Hualalai resort 11
years ago. This is a second home and our family, until recently, only spent a couple months a year on the
island. Thus,we use very little of the services the county provides. However, our property taxes are already
the highest per value of any place in the country--$11,10 per$1,000 of value--we pay over$95,000 per
year. To place an increase of 31% on top of that is not only unfair, but highly discriminatory! Truly taxation
without representation! Our presence here supports our community, our ohana,through the jobs
created and the many ways we give back through charitable giving and support of local producers of various
goods and services. Do not penalize those of us that call Hawaii their second home and support all those that
live and work here and have become part of our Ohana.
