RESOLUTION NO. 673 20
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT TO PROVIDE A GRANT TO PUNA CANOE CLUB
FOR REIMBURSEMENT OF EXPENSES RELATED TO CANOE REPAIRS.
WHEREAS, Puna Canoe Club is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to
perpetuate the ancient sport of Hawaiian outrigger canoe racing through an enjoyable, nurturing,
and disciplined program; and
WHEREAS, Puna Canoe Club has grown to become the largest canoe club in East
Hawai`i due to its competitive spirit, family values, and programs for keiki and kupuna; and
WHEREAS, Puna Canoe Club offers academic support, stresses family values of respect
and responsibility, and encourages healthy activities, well-being and teamwork by demonstrating
a shared responsibility of caring for the canoes; and
WHEREAS, Puna Canoe Club has three fiberglass canoes, the Kupa`a, Mahealani, and
Pohoiki, that needed repairing; and
WHEREAS, Puna Canoe Club is requesting reimbursement for expenses relating to
repairing its three fiberglass canoes; and
WHEREAS, the Department of Parks and Recreation supports ocean sports and
activities that promote a healthy lifestyle, teamwork, and camaraderie, all of which are found in
canoe paddling; and
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 2-139(a)(2)(A) of the Hawai`i County Code,
Contingency Relief funds shall be transferred to an accepting County department/agency via
resolution identifying the nonprofit organization and the specific program, project, event,
activity, service, equipment, materials, or supplies for which the grant shall be used; now,
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
Contingency Relief funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the Department of
Parks and Recreation to provide a grant to the Puna Canoe Club for reimbursement of expenses
related to canoe repairs.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the County of Hawai`i hereby
transfers/appropriates the following amount as set forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall transmit a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and Director of Finance, and that the Director
of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of
this resolution.
