The two tier proposal saddles less than 1% of homeowners with 20% of the property tax revenues. Further, most of these homeowners, ourselves included, cannot vote for a representative on the Council. 3 In addition to this fundamentally un-American maneuver, the long term I loss to the community must be considered. Along with more than half of Kuki'o members, we regularly donate to the Kuki'o Community Fund, which last year raised $743,000 for local youth development organizations and schools. Inspired by the beauty and fragility of the Hawaiian coral reefs, we have also become donors to The Nature Conservancy to protect, study and renew the coral. These funds and other philanthropy are generously donated by I homeowners who want to share in the aloha spirit of Kona. This targeted tax rate proposal is a slap in the face and risks alienating generous community members. Please vote no on bill 169 and consider another, more equitable rate structure that doesn't target those of us who cannot vote for our representative yet contribute to the community we have come to love. Sincerely, Carrie and Peter Tilton 3 I 3 I I Corxe. a1o Ref. Ta• . 1 "i1 Ref.bate JUN -3 2020 I i
