Re: Supporting Bill 176, CARES Spending in Hawai'i County
Dear Honorable Chair Chung and Hawai'i County Council Members,
The Hawai'i Public Health Institute (HIPHI), whose mission is to advance the health
and wellness of the people and. islands of Hawai'i by expanding understanding of what
creates health, fostering partnerships among public health.,, health care and. diverse
sectors to improve health and wellness, and by cultivating programs to improve policies,
systems and. the environment where people live, learn, work, age and play.
HIPHI supports the allocation of CARES funds to be used for direct relief and resources
for families, essential workers and food sustainability. We recommend the following
areas:
• Immediate Food Assistance Needs for keiki to kupuna
• PPE's for direct service providers in health, dental, and social services
• Support for food production and,sustainability
• Support for services for the unhoused
HIPHI supports Bill 176 and we thank the Hawai'i County Council for using the CARES
funds to aid our food system and community resilience by allocating the funds
responsibly and thoughtfully.
