Re:New Tax on Homeowners of Vacation Homes in Hawaii County
I am appalled that you would even consider a new much higher tax on non-resident
homes. We already pay a higher real estate tax than the resident home owners.
Yet we do not even come close to using the county services. Our schooling,Medical and
emergency are mainly provided our home states and counties.
In my case I have contributed a lot of money to your local organizations in helping kids
and church. I also use local residents to maintain my property and of course use your
local merchants for my purchases.
1,like many people, do not have to live in Hawaii county. We choose to live there.
However, you must understand there are other beautiful places to live in Hawaii outside
of your county. I for one would have no problem moving to another more tax friendly
county.None of us came to Hawaii county to be singled out to bail out county financial
short falls. All residents above the poverty level and non residents should participate to in
making up any short fall.
My wife and I did not come to Hawaii county to proved all these services to the residents
who are not paying their fair share for them.
In conclusion,The county already discriminates against us with the charging us with
much higher property taxes than the residents We use very little of your services but yet
we expected to pay to pay more for them. If you continue on this new tax path you will
run the very real risk of losing many of the non-residents and the substantial benefits they
provide to your county. I for one do not like that you feel it is ok levy a tax
on just a few people to pay the bills for everyone else.
Sincerely
Mike Matthews
