Subject: Support of ammendments to SB 178; hearing July 07, 2020
Aloha to whom it may concern,
Today I am writing in support of proposed amendments to Bill 178 (first hearing: July 07,2020). It is my personal
and professional thought that expanding categories of native forest dedications in Hawaii County from one to three
would be extremely beneficial for both the security of our watershed, as well as the success and expansion of native
forests on Hawai'i Island.
During this time of Covid-19, more individuals and families have been putting more time into working their
'aina. With budget and job cuts across the state,this is the perfect opportunity to draw on the kama'aina to reforest
Hawai'i, while doing a small part to support our local economy, in the sense of a tax break for local 'ohana who are
putting work into preserving and expanding native forests that provide homes for many native flora and fauna.
My only reservation is that the tax break be implemented once the work has begun, not once the plan is approved.
