Members Present: (Chair) Patricia Walters, Pamela Punihaole, Linda Gonzales, Penny Alcoran, Laura Tobosa, Susan Shirachi Members Excused; Sam Nagasawa, Byron Yogi, Laina Torres. County Staff Excused: Malia Hall (Deputy Corporation Council) Members Absent: Christina Parke Guests Present: Pam Cabrera (Hawaii Disability Rights) Topic/Agenda Item Discussion Action Chair Patricia Walters asked everyone to The Committee members introduce themselves. acknowledged their presence. Review/Approve Approval of the March 20, 2019 Meeting Approval of the January 16"' Minutes Minutes meeting minutes moved by Committee member Laura Tobosa and seconded by Committee member Susan Shirachi. Speakers from Kona Disabled American No one was available to present Veterans Chapter Seven from the Kona Disabled American Veterans group. b. Pam Cabrera of Hawaii Disability Rights Pam introduced herself to the in attendance from Honolulu Office. Committee and explained that she is the peer advocate for the Hawaii Disability Rights Center. Their agency does protection and advocacy for people with all disabilities. She informed the Committee that she works closely with the schools, in making sure the students with disabilities get the proper education. She informed the Committee that any complaints would need to reported through the Oahu office. c. Sub Committee Reports Committee member Susan Shirachi provided handouts relating to homelessness (See attachments) d. Nominate a New Vice Chair Tabled to the next meeting. Letters to the Mayor on our meeting Chair Walters informed the results Committee that she would be working on the letter for Mayor Kim. f. Executive Meeting to follow each Chair Walters informed the monthly meeting. Committee that this does not apply if there is no Executive Committee. a. Letter to advise Mayor Harry Kim on Chair Walters informed the Committee results and suggestions. Committee that she would be working on the letter for Mayor Kim. 7. Announcements Committee Member Alcoran shared information about the Carrigan Grant. This is a free 6 and 1/2 week course for job readiness and is open to anyone with disabilities. Taking place at the Arc of Kona. Pam Cabrera also informed the Committee about an event called Reverse Job fair. This event targets people with disabilities and Veterans.
