Update on 2014 National Electrical Code (NEC) and
2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC)
Per the Hawaii Revised Statutes H.R.S. 107-28(b), the adopted state electrical code
2014 National Electrical Code (NEC), effective date of March 27, 2017, shall become
applicable as an interim county electrical code should the county not amend the state
code within the two year time frame of the effective date. As such,
Electrical permit applications RECEIVED, DATE STAMPED before March 27,
2019 will be reviewed and enforced to the current 2008 NEC code.
Electrical permit applications RECEIVED, DATE STAMPED on or after March
27, 2019 shall be designed, reviewed and enforced to the 2014 NEC code.
Per the Hawaii Revised Statutes H.R.S. 107-28(b), the adopted state energy code the
2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) effective date of March 31,
2017, shall become applicable as an interim county energy code should the county not
amend the state code within the two year time frame of effective date. As such,
Building permit applications RECEIVED, DATE STAMPED before March 31,
2019 will be reviewed and enforced to the current 2006 IECC code.
Building permit applications RECEIVED, DATE STAMPED on or after March 31,
2019 shall be designed, reviewed and enforced to the IECC 2015 code.
