Mauna Kea Cheat Sheet — Cabins FAQ
How do I obtain a Lodging Permit:
Users who would like to obtain a Lodging permit at the Mauna Kea Recreation Area may visit the
County's website listed here: https://hawaiicounty.ehawaii.gov/camping/welcome.html.
7 Cabins are available at the Mauna Kea Recreation Area which include 5 regular Cabins and 2 ADA
Cabins, maximum capacity is 6 people per cabin
Normal Park Hours are 6:00am till 7:00pm — Open to the general public
Lodging Permits are required from 7:00pm till 6:00am
Quiet Time is 11:00pm
Lodging Permits may be purchased up to 6 months in advanced
Lodging Permits must be purchased at least 48 hours prior to scheduled use (first night)
Cabin Lodging Permits shall have 2 parking stalls during non -park hours only
Maximum stay is 7 consecutive nights and not to exceed 14 nights during the period of January 1 till
December 31
Guests listed on cabin permits need to wait 30 calendar days before booking another permit
Check in is between 3:00pm and 8:00pm daily
Failure to check in by 8:00pm will forfeit fees assessed for that night and the use of the cabin
Check out time is 9:00am — Please drop keys in the designated drop box
Included in Each Cabin are:
Kitchenette — includes a range with specific pots & pans, 1 mini refrigerator, 1 microwave, 1 6ft folding
table and 6 chairs
Dining Area
Living Area
Open Area
Single unit shower stall and Toilet
*Please note you will need to bring anything that is not listed here as it not included or available at the
cabins or Mauna Kea Recreation Area.
Fees:
Hawaii Resident: $75.00 per night + $250.00 Security Deposit
Non -Hawaii Resident: $150.00 per night + $250.00 Security Deposit
Security Deposits may be held up to 45 calendar days after checkout date
*Please note a $10.00 Fee will apply if the permit is done in the County P&R Office
Refunds:
ALL Refunds must be made in writing 14 calendar days prior to first occupancy use date
A Processing fee of $20.00 per day on permit will be withheld when canceling a Lodging Permit
Refund Requests made 13 days or less will result in a forfeiture of ALL Fees
Alcohol
Smoking or any tobacco products including electronic devices
Firearms and explosives
Open Fires
Sleeping in vehicles, campers, vans, trailers, and tents
Fireworks
Animals
Tents, tables, chairs, and generators
ATV's, off -Road motorcycles, and other motorized vehicles not registered for public roadways
