Dear Mr. Hoeflinger:
Thank you very much for your letter of July 23, 2019, expressing various concerns about
County operations.
Regarding your concern that envelopes are no longer being provided to mail back
vehicle registration payments, we are encouraging customers to avail themselves of the Vehicle
Registration kiosks at Safeway in Hilo and Kona, which opened earlier this year to great reviews
from the community. The process is simple and quick, with no lines and no need to pay for a
postage stamp. Additional kiosk locations are being considered to make it even more
convenient.
Regarding Internet access, Parks and Recreation (P&R) is currently working with
Spectrum to add Wi-Fi capabilities at numerous facilities. This will benefit not only P&R
employees, but the general public as well since Spectrum will be offering free Wi-Fi at
these facilities.
After speaking with P&R, the issue is not that "recreation program contacts are
not permitted internet access," but rather the infrastructure is not in place at all of their
over 200 facilities (most of which are 50 years old) to provide internet access. As P&R
upgrades their facilities, Internet cables are being installed.
Thank you very much for taking the time to write, and thank you for volunteering
as a gun safety instructor for the County.
Al a,
