What to do if your driver’s license doesn’t expire until 2026 or thereabouts
We've had lots of interest in our press release regarding what documents people need
to bring to the DMV to renew their driver's licenses. On January 16, 2018, motorists
renewing their Hawai'i driver’s licenses were issued a REAL ID compliant license
bearing a star in a gold circle, indicating that the license is in full compliance with new
Federal guidelines.
Q. What should people do whose licenses were issued without a star in a gold circle?
A. According to the County's Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division, they should
apply for a duplicate license to put the Gold Star on. People should bring all of their
documents with them just in case. There is a $6 fee for a duplicate license.
County of Hawai‘i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.
