On January 16, 2018, motorists renewing their Hawai'i driver’s licenses were issued a REAL ID compliant license bearing a star in a gold circle, indicating that the license is in full compliance with new Federal guidelines. Q. What should people do whose licenses were issued without a star in a gold circle? A. According to the County's Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division, they should apply for a duplicate license to put the Gold Star on. People should bring all of their documents with them just in case. There is a $6 fee for a duplicate license. County of Hawai‘i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.
