MEETING MINUTES

CALL TO ORDER
Farrah -Marie Gomes called meeting to order at 10:14am.

III. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Kami motioned to approve agenda, Mihaela seconded. Motion passed.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES (May 15, 2019)
Mele motioned to approve the meeting minutes of May 15, 2019. Kami seconded.
Motion passed.
ACTION ITEM: CSW requests the minutes be electronically distributed along with new
agenda prior to each meeting.
V. TREASURER'S REPORT
No Report
ACTION ITEM: Add 2019-2020 budget approval to next month's agenda.
VI. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
Amalia Sumi works for Netcom and heard about the CSW from Cyd. She joined the
meeting to find out more about what the CSW does because she is interested in the
work the committee does for women in the community.

VII. CORRESPONDENCE
Vice Chair, Lee -Ann Heely, has submitted her resignation to the committee. We
thank Dr. Heely for her time and service on the CSW.
VIII. REPORTS
A. Update on our NACW Membership Application for 2019
a. Cyd reported that the 2019 NACW membership fee for Hawaii County CSW
was paid directly by Hawaii State CSW to NACW.
b. Laney emailed details about the 2018 NACW membership reimbursement that
is being processed by the Hawaii State CSW to Hawaii County CSW. The
check will be sent to Laney and she will mail over to Lisa.
IX. OLD BUSINESS
A. Teen Dating Violence
a. All members are out of cell phone safety cards.
b. This sub -committee will discuss whether to update the cell phone safety cards,
create a new one, or do a different type of project. An update will be provided
at next month's meeting.
ACTION ITEM: Remove "Update on cell phone safety card distribution" from next
month's agenda.
B. Real Women Essay Contest
a. No update on the article since Lee -Ann was the one working on that item.
b. No update on partnering with KNKR 96.1 "Women's Voices" Radio Show to
showcase Essay Contest Winners. Follow-up with Brooke needed.
C. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Forum
a. HIWLF was hosting a screening of the film "Rise of the Wahine: Champions of
Title IX" on May 22, 2019, UH Hilo Performing Arts Center at 5:00 PM. This is
being rescheduled.
D. CSW Brochure
a. Reviewed updated draft with additional pictures. Edits were suggested to
Mihaela.
b. Confirmed that consent was received for use of Essay Contest and HIWLF
pictures.
c. Mihaela will make additional edits, then send to Lisa to email out to committee
before next meeting.
E. Family Services Directory
a. Farrah picked up 4 boxes of directories from the Prosecuting Attorney's office.
b. Cyd, Mihaela and Andy took a handful of directories to have available.
c. Deb took the remainder of that box for distribution in North Hawaii.
d. Mele took one box for distribution in East Hawaii.
e. Kami took one box for distribution in West Hawaii.
f. Farrah will hold on to the last box for replenishing supply as the year goes on.
g. Mele will create a tracking document and maintain for 2019-2020 distribution.

F. Human Trafficking
a. Mihaela reported that this committee is still working on making contact with a
potential community partner. Jewel and Mihaela met with Julie Mowrer and
Marisa Miyashiro from UH Hilo College of Community Engagement. There
may be a student who is interested, but there is no confirmation yet.
b. Another possible project for this sub -committee is obtaining and distributing
posters and other printed materials to increase visual awareness about the
topic of Human Trafficking.
c. Cyd will be participating in an event on June 28 at the Hilo Women's Club.
She will email the flyer to Lisa to send out to the rest of the committee. It is
open to the public.
G. Equal Pay
a. Grant from Hawaii County is working with Resonate (The Wave) who is not in
compliance and therefore, cannot get paid by the County. If they do not come
into compliance before the end of this fiscal year, they may not be able to get
paid for the ads they ran. Amount is estimated to be $333.
X. NEW BUSINESS
A. New Programs + New Projects
a. Mihaela expressed interest in generating a report on the Status of Women on
Hawaii Island. This could be modeled after the 2017 report produced by the
Hawaii State CSW.
B. Update on CSW Operating Guidelines
a. Mele suggested that a sub -committee be formed to look at the operating
guidelines and bring recommendations to the committee for review.
ACTION ITEM: Add agenda items to form committees for Status of Women report and
CSW Operating Guidelines to next month's agenda.
C. Review Slate from Nominating Committee for upcoming CSW elections + Vote
a. No nominations were made from the floor.
b. Mele motioned and Kami seconded to close nominations from the floor and
accept the slate as presented. Motion passed.
c. Vote by raise of hand was taken. Slate of officers received 6 votes and passed
unanimously. Officers are:

• Mihaela Ryer —Recording Secretary
• Andrew Langtry — Treasurer
• Mele Spencer — Corresponding Secretary
d. Change of officers takes effect immediately.
I. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 11:34am. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday,
July 17, 2019 via videoconference at Hilo and Kona.
