MEETING MINUTES
Tuesday, April 2, 2019

CALL TO ORDER
Chair Brooke Derby called meeting to order at 10:26am.

APPROVAL OF AGENDA
Mihaela motioned to approve agenda. Mele seconded. Motion passed.
IV. APPROVAL OF MINUTES (March 13, 2019)
• Add Kami Bolster as present.
• Correct spelling of Diana's name from Diane to Diana.
• On page 2, item C, add Sako as last name for Deanna.
• Mele motioned to approve meeting minutes of March 13, 2019 with
above amendments. Mihaela seconded. Motion passed.
V. TREASURER'S REPORT
A. March financials — no information received from Jewel.
VI. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC — None
VII. CORRESPONDENCE
• A letter dated March 31, 2019 was received from the NACW
acknowledging receipt of Hawaii County CSW's membership. Mele
made this payment and will get reimbursed from Hawaii County CSW,
then the State CSW will reimburse Hawaii County CSW.
ACTION ITEM: Mele will follow-up with Lisa and Laney about reimbursements.

VIII. REPORTS
A. No report from Hawaii State CSW.
B. Andrew moved to approve renewing the CSW's membership to NACW for
2019 with the understanding that the State CSW will reimburse the County
CSW for the $100 expense. Mihaela seconded. Motion approved.
C. NACW's 49th Conference will be in Chicago on July 22-24, 2019.
ACTION ITEM: CSW members who are interested in attending should notify
Brooke as soon as possible.
IX. OLD BUSINESS
A. Teen Dating Violence — no report
B. Real Women Essay Contest
• RFP for the venue has been sent out with a respond by deadline of
April 9.
• All scores have been received and tabulated, so winners have been
selected. Invitations will be sent out as soon as location and date
are finalized.
• We received notice from Lisa that all of the gift cards have been
purchased.
• We will have a form available at the luncheon for any students
interested in reading their essay on the radio.
C. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Forum
• We are looking at hosting a screening for Rise of the Wahine on
May 21, 22 or 23 at the UH Hilo Performing Art Center.
• We are still trying to determine ticket price. To encourage attendees
to come with others, support each other, etc., the sub -committee is
looking at creating an incentive for two tickets to be cheaper when
purchased together as opposed to separately.
• We are looking at potentially having a professional development
session with Andrea Pro.
• There will not be a Summit in 2019. We are looking at 2020 as the
next Summit date.
D. CSW Brochure
• Mihaela received the CSW logos.
• Still need more photos to include in the brochure.
E. Family Services Directory
• Lisa has the final electronic copy of the 2019 directory.
• The paper has been ordered.
• CSW will take the complete inventory when the order is done so
that we can account for all copies.

F. Human Trafficking
• Mihaela received a response from Hawaii CC. They do not have
any students at this time who are interested in this project.
• Mihaela reached out to Julie Mowrer at UH Hilo. They might have
students who are interested in doing a video project on this topic.
• Committee discussed desired outcome for this project.
• Sub -committee will meet to discuss options and come back with a
plan for project execution in next fiscal year.
G. Equal Pay
• Today is Equal Pay Day based on use of 2018 salary data.
However, next Tuesday is the nationally recognized Equal Pay
Day, which traditionally falls on the second Tuesday of each month.
• Radio ads have not yet been recorded, but have been scripted.
• Jewel and Brooke have been in correspondence with Lisa and
Laney about how to get the ads paid. A portion will be paid by
County CSW. The other portion will be paid directly from the State
CSW. Lee Lord clarified with Deanna Sako that as long as County
CSW did not engage in any contracts with the radio station, it was
okay for the State CSW to pay the ads directly to the radio stations.
• The target is to get the ads to run on Tuesday, April 9, 2019.
• State CSW mailed Pay Day candy bars to Brooke. Farrah will print
the labels and deliver to Hawaii County Council members.
X. NEW BUSINESS
A. New Programs + New Projects — None
B. Update CSW Operating Guidelines
• Started review of the document, but was short on time. Everyone is
requested to review the document before the next meeting.
ACTION ITEM: Send recommendations to Mele. She will compile before meeting.
C. Form Nomination Committee for Elections
Mihaela motioned to nominate Farrah, Mele and Andrew as the
Nomination Committee for this year's election. Mele seconded. No
discussion. Motion approved.
XI. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Brooke distributed a flyer from Alan for National Crime Victims Rights
Week. Please share with others.
XII. ADJOURNMENT
A. Mele motioned to adjourn the meeting. Mihaela seconded. No discussion.
Motion carried. Meeting adjourned at 11:51 am.
B. Next meeting is on Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at 9:30am via video
conference in Hilo and Kona.
