Other commissions partner with organizations like Girl Scouts, women in politics, women in non-profit, women in leadership roles, etc. Some of the events and activities shared were Women of the Year Luncheon with a scholarship for young ladies ($2000 per student), Women Hall of Fame, Breakfast Briefing for all Domestic Violence Shelters + Law Enforcement, Women's Legislative Caucasus Breakfast to hear from Women Representatives/Senators, Veteran Stand Down Day which offers a day for Veterans to rest and refurbish with all kinds of activities like massage, resume writing workshops, job interview skills, etc. For Equal Pay Day, one group delivers cookies to high school Juniors and Seniors. Brooke also attended the breakout session on Human Trafficking: Law and Advocacy Developments. That was a huge eye opener. Human Trafficking is a huge problem in Hawaii. We are a host state meaning we bring them here and send them out. There were lots of sad stories shared of HT incidents here in Hawaii and how the police and prosecutors here are turning a blind eye. There is so much work to be done in this field. ACTION ITEM: Add Human Trafficking as an item under projects on our next agenda. Brooke also attended breakout session On The Chopping Block: Helping your Commission Survive and Thrive. Heely) Brooke Derby reported that the Summit was a success and the Keynote speaker was phenomenal! She talked about identifying your sponsors (not your mentors) but someone who will stick up for you, stand by you no matter what. Enjoyed the Conscience Communication Session with Julie Mitchell and the key take-aways were: N.A.M= Not about me! Asking Questions is about you not them. Samples of Narrow focused questions are: How did that make you feel? What do you want to do about the situation? A sample close -ended question is: Will that resolve the issue for you? Loved Katie Moore's session -it was powerful! Mele reported she thought the conference was wonderful and thought we did a fantastic job! Deb reported that her boss had some complaints- the parking, her payment issue, needed better signs as you arrived, registered and for the breakout sessions. Was confusing to know which session was where. ACTION ITEM: Leave this on agenda so Jessie and Lee -Ann can give their reports. VIII. PROJECTS A.
