CALL TO ORDER
Chair Farrah -Marie Gomes called meeting to order at 1:09p.m. Quorum was
met.

III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES (October 16, 2016)
A. Mele motioned to approve the October 16, 2016 minutes and Jewel
seconded. The minutes of October 16, 2016 were approved as submitted.
IV. TREASURERS REPORT
A. September 2016 Financials
• $900 allotted for workshops.
• $60 reflected in travel.
• Expenses for real women essay reflected.
Hawai'i County is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer
B. Lee -Ann motioned to approve September 2016 financials and Tammy
seconded. September 2016 financials approved as submitted.
C. October 2016 financials
• Presented to CSW.
• Jewel motioned to approve October 2016 financials, Deb
seconded. October 2016 financials approved as submitted.
Action: Farrah will provide Mele with breakdown of resolution and dollar
amounts. Mele to follow up with Farrah on County's status regarding financials.
V. STATEMENTS FROM THE PUBLIC
A. None.
VI. CORRESPONDENCE
A. None.
VII. REPORTS
A. State CSW Liaison
• No update submitted to CSW members.
• Discussion occurring with Cathy Betts regarding funding in the
approximate amount of $2,000 for Hawaii Island Women's
Leadership Forum planning activity. Fiscal sponsor is Friends of
the Future.
• Legislative Workshop will be offered with a focus of how CSW
members and others can get information out to the public on how
women can get more involved in legislative activity.
• A voter engagement workshop is going to be coordinated with a
focus on a) educating voters on legislative process; b) overview of
Legislative process; c) how legislative caucus works; and d)
important role of testimony.
• Cyd will be general contact; Farrah will reach out to AAUW; Mele
will reach out to Zonta; We need to figure out speakers; flyer;
CSW committee come next month on speakers who can speak on
legislative topics; writing testimony (registered lobbyist) and what
is included; receiving testimony, etc.
Action: Farrah will follow up with AAUW and Mitch. Mele will follow up with
YWCA, and Zonta. After dates are identified, Farrah and Lee -Ann will work on
securing location of workshop in Hilo or Kona and light refreshments.
B. NACW — Lee -Ann's update
• Breakout session, "Beyond Mad Men: Creating Equitable
Workplaces for Women" by Elizabeth Kent, J.D., spoke about the
basics concepts of negotiation which are essential and beneficial
to women attaining desired pay for employment.
• Basic concepts of negotiation include: Power, Communication
Skills, Time, and Information.

a. Power — women have the knowledge and power to
influence people, situations, and their current position
of employment.
b. Communication Skills- women must use effective
communication skills during the interview session by
preparing in advance a strategic plan to achieve
desired outcomes.
c. Time- women should give serious thought about the
employment salary being offered in relation to their
education, experience, skill sets, and value.
d. Information- women can increase opportunities to
advance by gathering basics information on
negotiation process.
VIII. PROJECTS
A. Teen Dating Violence
• Project proposal by Jewel was shared. Project is aiming for 2017
— Teen Video clip as a strategy to create awareness for teens and
healthy relationships.
• Deb has a youth group who can produce the video as part of their
program.
• Planning for a lunch to recognize youth, partnerships made and
platform of the "launch" to kick start event.
• Project committee agreed that a partnership with a local non-profit
lunch with special invitees such as Hawaii County Council,
educators, and community representatives would be beneficial.
• Cost for event would be no more than $50 for certificates and
envelopes and no more than $450 for venue and refreshments. A
letter to principals could be shared with a message of community
service. A total of $500 has already been approved from CSW
budget but approval for line items is still being sought.
• 6 kids enrolled in project, but we will acknowledge others -to be
discussed.
Action: Debra will check with the program to see how the funds can be used.
B. Real Women Essay Contest
• Discussed dates available in April 2016.
• Discussed the need for a press release.
• Decided upon April 9 date for Real Woman Essay luncheon.
• Project committee will meet to discuss RFQ.
Action: Lee -Ann to send press release to Renee for approval.
C. Hawaii Island Women's Leadership Forum
• Finalized bill with Hilton and payment is complete with all expenses
covered.

• Next month will have definitive direction for forum activities.
• CSW leaders will embrace newcomers to HIWLF.
D. CSW Brochure
• Update on status will be provided next month.
E. Cell Phone Safety Cards
• Debra handed out 120 at Hamakua-Kohala Health Ladies Night
Out.
• Lee -Ann provided 50 to a youth community group.
F. Urgent Services Directory
• Deb distributed at Ladies Night Out event.
• April/May 2017 CSW will update Urgent Services Directory.
G. Human Trafficking
• Table until next month. Possible Hui Ho'ola partnership.
IX. OLD BUSINESS
A. Calendar of Events
• Farrah shared agenda events — no events in January 2017.
• 1 billion rising in February 2017.
• March 2017 is Women's History Month
• April 2017 is Equal Pay Day and Denim Day (Zonta typically leads
denim day events).
• CSW members will continue to discuss calendar of events at
future meetings.
Action Item: Farrah will send link on 1 billion rising and CSW members will review.
B. By -Laws
• Recirculation of bylaws for review on Corresponding Secretary
and vote next month on whether or not it's needed.
X. ANNOUNCEMENTS
A. Hamakua Health Fair on 11/19/16.
XI. ADJOURNMENT
A. Next meeting is December 13, 2016. Meeting site will beat Puna
Conference Room at Hawaii County Building. Start time is 10.00am.
B. Debra moved to adjourn meeting and Mele seconded. No discussion.
Meeting adjourned at 2:29pm.
