Noda Managing Director Deputy Director County of Hawai‘i DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT 345 Kekūanāoʻa Street, Suite 41 · Hilo, Hawai‘i 96720 Ph: (808) 961-8083 · Fax: (808) 961-8086 Email: cohdem@hawaiicounty.gov NEWS RELEASE December 5, 2019 Contact: Michael Kaha, Solid Waste Division Deputy Chief, County of Hawaiʻi Department of Environmental Management (office main line 808-961-8083; work cell 808-756-8147) SOLID WASTE TRANSFER STATION AND SERVICE CLOSURES TODAY, DECEMBER 5, 2019: • Volcano Transfer Station • Hilo Scrap Metal and White Goods • Pāhoa Scrap Metal and White Goods • Keaʻau Greenwaste, Scrap Metal, and White Goods The Volcano Transfer Station Due to staff shortages, the Volcano Transfer Station will close at 8:00 a.m. today (Thursday, December 5, 2019), and will reopen as regularly scheduled on Saturday, December 7, 2019, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Until 6:00 p.m. this afternoon residents can take their household generated waste to the Kea’au Transfer Station, which is open seven days a week from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. or the Hilo Transfer Station, which is open seven days a week from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Hilo Scrap Metal and White Goods services at the Hilo Transfer Station are closed today. Services should resume as regularly scheduled tomorrow, December 6, 2019, from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Pāhoa Scrap Metal and White Goods services at the Pāhoa Transfer Station are closed today. Services should resume as regularly scheduled tomorrow, December 6, 2019, from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The Keaʻau Greenwaste, Scrap Metal and White Goods services are also closed today.
