Dear Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members:
Re: Removal of Koki`o at Manuka State Park from List of Exceptional Trees
TMK: 8-1-009:001, Council District 7 (South-Kona)
At the May 18, 2006 Arborist Advisory Committee meeting, committee member Ms. Sammi Stanbro
reported that the Koki`o, No. 3 on the list of Exceptional Trees, was termite infested around its base.
At the April 19, 2007 committee meeting, Ms. Stanbro reported that the tree had been cut down.
By letter dated July 3, 2007, Mr. Glenn Y. Taguchi, Hawaii Parks District Superintendent, stated that
the tree was removed. Therefore, he is requesting that this tree be removed from the list of Exceptional
Trees.
The Arborist Advisory Committee requests that the August 14, 2007 Council committee hearing be
waived and this bill be set on the agenda for the County Council meeting in Kona on
August 15, 2007.
Please feel free to contact me at 965-8839, or Esther Imamura at the Planning Department at 961-8288,
extension 257, if you have any questions or concerns regarding this matter.
Ve ruly yours,
n

RE: Communication No. 542, Bill 136: An Ordinance Amending Chapter 14, Article 10, of
the Hawaii County Code, As Amended, Relating to Exceptional Trees
Pursuant to Section 2(g) of Rule 4 of the Rules of Procedure of the Council of the County of
Hawaii, this written request is submitted with my approval that the above-referenced matter be
waived from the Committee on Planning to the full Council for immediate action. In reviewing
this matter, timely approval is crucial. It is therefore advantageous that approval is granted and
the matter placed onto the next Council agenda for review. However, in the event this request is
denied, for whatever reason, I understand the matter shall be referred to the Committee on
Planning for placement on its future agenda.
