SUBJECT: Recommendations for Exceptional Tree Designation
In accordance with Article 10. Exceptional Trees, Sections 14 -59 (Powers and duties) and 14 -60
Procedures) of the Hawaii County Code, the Arborist Advisory Committee recommends that the
following be designated as Exceptional Trees as defined in Section 14 -57:

I, Michael Wilson, in my capacity as Chairperson of the Board of
Land and Natural Resources, recognize that a Chinese Weeping
Banyan tree growing on property under the jurisdiction of the
Department of Land and Natural Resources situated between Kilauea
Avenue and the Mohouli Fish Pond, Hilo, Hawaii, is exceptional
under the criteria of the Exceptional Tree Law HRS Chapter 58),
and the Department of Land and Natural Resources, State of
Hawaii, agrees to allow it to be designated as such upon the list
of Exceptional Trees of the County of Hawaii which is filed with
the County Arborist Committee and Department of Planning. The
Department of Land & Natural Resources agrees that it will not
destroy this tree or affect its immediate surroundings in such a
way that its health and vigor is negatively impacted without
first consulting the County Arborist Advisory Committee through
the Hawaii County Planning Department, so long as the property
involved is under the jurisdiction of the Department of Land and
Natural Resources.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources understands that the
County of Hawaii assumes no liability with reference to this tree
and will not be responsible for its care and maintenance.
In the event that the property ownership is transferred, the
