On July 22, 2014, President Obama signed into law (PL 113-128) the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA), reauthorizing the expired Workforce Investment Act (WIA) of 1998. WIOA is designed to provide services to increase employment, retention and earnings of participants and increase occupational skill attainment by participants and, as a result, improve the quality of the workforce, reduce welfare dependency and enhance the productivity and competitiveness of the Nation. The Hawai'i County Workforce Development Board's (HCWDB) mission is to promote the development of a highly competent and productive workforce by coordinating the efforts of educational institutions, labor, business, economic development organizations, government agencies and the entire community in order to sustain a strong economy and lifestyle. Your input and involvement is vital to the successful outcome of our employment and training system. Your contribution will help shape our economic outlook in Hawai'i County for years to come.
