AARP Tax Preparation Services Dates and Locations
CSE and AARP collaborates once again to offer Tax Preparation Services to our Low Income
Seniors who need help in filing their 2019 tax returns. Coordinated Services will assist in
scheduling appointments at the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC), 1055 Kino`ole
Street, Hilo, starting January 02, 2020. Seniors living in the East Hawaii districts are
encouraged to call our CSE Hilo office at (808) 961-8777 to schedule an appointment or
contact your nearest CSE district offices to assist you.

New Senior Identification Card Locations for West Hawaii
CSE Kona staff has started a new location for Senior Identification Card at the Keauhou
Shopping Center outside KTA every second Thursday from 11 :00 a.m.-1 :00 p.m. with the
exception of some months in 2020.
CSE Honoka`a worker, Lorrie Akina-Ferguson has started her new Senior Identification Card
location in front of Malama Market in Honoka'a every third Wednesday from 11 :00 a.m-1 :00
p.m. as schedule permits.
Please see our Senior Identification Card schedule on page 3 for the exact dates. We are
happy to share that we have received positive feedback from all who stop by to inquire not only
about our Senior ID Cards but our other services for Senior Citizen Information & Assistance,
Referral, Chore and Transportation.

45th Annual Island Kupuna Softball Tournament
This year's tournament was held at Walter Victor Complex and Wong Stadium in Hilo on July 10 & 11, 2019.
22 Big Island teams consisting of over 450 senior softballers participated in the 2 day tournament.
Everyone played their hearts out and enjoyed playing ball.

I37th Annual Kupuna Hula Festival I
18 halaus, from Japan, Okinawa, Maui, Moloka`i, Oahu and the Big Island, gathered to celebrate this year's
theme "Ku Kilakila Na Mauna 0 Hawai`i Pae `Aina", "Standing majestic are our mountains of our islands". The
Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa hosted both the competition and craft fair on September 11th-12th. Over 1,000 people
attended the two day festival to watch the 18 halaus compete for top prizes in 6 categories. The individual Tutu Wahine
and Tutu Kane dances took place on Wednesday night, followed by the group competitions in the Mixed, Wahine,
Kane and Overall categories on Thursday night.
The top three winners in each of the competitions received prizes generously donated by local sponsors: First
Hawaiian Bank, Big Island Candies, County of Hawai`i Parks and Recreation Elderly Activities Division, and the
Kupuna Hula Festival.
The 38th Annual Hawai`i Kupuna Hula Festival is tentatively scheduled for September 9-10, 2020 at the
Sheraton Kona Resort and Spa.
