Dear Chair Chang and Kahele, Vice-Chair Kanuha and Keith-Agaran, and Committee members:
RE: SB 3113 Relating to Housing
There is no question that affordable rental housing is needed throughout Hawaii
County, and SB 3113 identifies an opportunity in Honokaa, Hawaii where a 15 acre
parcel is already under government control and could well be suitable for such a project.
My understanding is that exact title to the land is in question but should be easily
sorted out, so I defer to the Hawaii Public Housing Authority and HHFDC to help this
Committee amend this bill as appropriate. Once that is done, I hope you can give
SB3113 your favorable vote, and move this project one-step closer to realization.
