The closure enables staff from that office to help at the other VRL offices. The Vehicle Registration and Licensing Division is redeploying staff as needed islandwide, while remaining in compliance with the Real ID Act. Customers wishing to renew their vehicle registrations may use the automated kiosks located at the Safeway stores in Hilo and Kona as well as at Foodland at Waimea or within the Vehicle Registration & Licensing office in Waimea are all possible alternatives. As an accommodation to our residents still needing to upgrade to the “gold star” Real ID compliant licenses before October 1, 2020, the Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division will be opening both the Hilo and Kona Driver’s License offices every other Saturday for license renewals and duplicate licenses beginning in April. The public will be kept informed on updates regarding the selected Saturday dates and hours of operation. The Department of Human Resources is expediting recruitments so that the Vehicle Registration & Licensing Division can minimize future office closures. We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding. County of Hawai‘i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer. County of Hawai`i is an Equal Opportunity Provider and Employer.
